The hotel is in a relatively remote location and yet it has a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Staff were all very friendly. Food though expensive and of the nouvelle cuisine style, was beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and surprisingly filling. This is the second time I have stayed here and I would emphatically recommend it. I was on business and opted for it because it was one of very few hotels in the area. It was definitely a world away from my normal accommodation, and all the better for that. My room as on the previous occasion, was sumptuous, beautiful elegant modern bathroom with a bath and a separate shower big enough for two people to share. Large comfy double bed.
It is quite easy to get lost trying to find the place even with Sat Nav. Bit it is well worth the effort. In fact be warned that the Sat Nav and indeed the road signs tend to take you on an unnecessarily circuitous route in order to make sure you arrive at the hotel via a very long drive. There is a much shorter route into the hotel from the A96 which I think is probably reserved for deliveries.
It was not over renovated. Seemed to be an authentic castle with a few frayed carpets and paint work required here and there. Good room service menu. Good breakfast.
Check out was painfully slow (45 minutes) and the bills were wrong.
Very friendly staff who worked at making sure your stay was an enjoyable experience.Surprisingly pet friendly.
Most days wedding held! That is the speciality but still ok
We attended a wedding at the hotel and it was very good for that
I have to say the breakfast was as good as anywhere I have stayed and gets full marks
Lovely setting and location
Arrived late and hotel did not have my Booked.net reservation on file. Was given the most dreary room I have ever stayed in lit by a picture light and 3 low watt bulbs. I accept the rooms are quirky in an old country house hotel and this adds to the character. There, is however, no excuse for such dreariness when charging over £100 for a room. Granted, the hotel did admit the room was due for refurb and knocked money off the bill but you have to ask why they didn't discount the room in the first place? Also beware of MacDonald Hotels policy of charging admin fee when paying by credit card, copying the low cost airline model - although they are not a low cost hotel chain. Leaves a bad taste for the sake of a few quid extra revenue.
Stunning setting, well furnished large rooms, very helpful and professional staff. Food and service were both excellent. Ideal wedding venue or base for walking and touring. Easy access to Aberdeen airport.
Watch the top two steps on the spiral staircase - hold the handrail!
The location was beautiful. The building was lovely. The food was pretty good.
It was quite a busy place as it was wedding season.
Perfect location, wonderful food and very helpful staff.
It was a nice old hotel, comfortable and the staff were friendly.
It was too far out in the sticks, but it was the closest hotel I could get. No swimming pool and gym free of charge.
The food was good. Was upgraded to a excecutive room that was really nice.
From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable, the hotel was elegant and the staff were always helpful.
Price of alchahol was a bit steep
Excellent quality bedrooms and great location
Attitude and helpfulness of staff.
Cold in bedrooms on arrival (arrived at 5pm). Not good when costing £170 for b and b
